This summer has once again seen the young members of Shirley Band taking part at national level brass banding bring a huge amount of pride to us all.

Firstly was the annual National Children's Brass Band of Great Britain residential course which took place in Repton, Derby. Becky and Tom, two of our star cornet players both attended and following seating auditions, Becky secured a solo cornet seat, and Tom, a 2nd cornet seat and enjoyed a week playing under the baton of Black Dyke Band conductor, Dr Nicholas Childs.

A week later saw the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain residential course take place in Derby and once again, our talented young tuba player, Neve, was playing with the band conducted by Bramwell Tovey, one of the world's leading conductors.

Meanwhile, horn player, Jessica and solo cornet, Laura, were both part of the choir singing in the first night of the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London which was broadcast live on BBC television.

What a fantastic summer for the members of the band, we are all very proud of them.
