Shirley Band Christmas Concerts Serve up a Festive Treat

We had a fantastic Christmas Children’s matinee concert and evening Christmas concert on Saturday, at the beautiful Shirley Baptist Church.

Music featured included The Polar Express, Frozen, A Christmas Bolero, O Magnum Mysterium and White Christmas.

Always our two most popular concerts of the year, for the first time in the band’s history, the new Shirley Band awards were also presented.

Mark Higham (soprano) was awarded the Players’ Player of the year award, Andrew Knight (cornet) was awarded the most improved player award, and Sally Middleton (Eb bass and secretary) clinched the Don Hodesdon Bandsperson of the year award.

There was also a special award given to Robin Mills (cornet and librarian) for his 70 years of outstanding long service to the band.
